Milwaukee Art Museum proposes fixes to War Memorial
Museum officials say the plan is urgent because the War Memorial buildings, occupied by the museum, veterans groups and other organizations, have reached a "tipping point" in terms of disrepair. The Milwaukee Art Museum has unveiled a proposed $15 million project that includes a plan to help restore the War Memorial Center and create a glassy new addition on the lakefront, an urban park and dramatic redesign of its galleries. The War Memorial building designed by the late architect Eero Saarinen, a modernist icon with a floating cruciform shape, was built in 1957 as a memorial to those who served in the U. In the summer of 2002, I embarked on a new mission. I gorged on a feast of courses and books covering political thought, military strategy, China, history, foreign policy, terrorism, and philosophy. It was a full academic year of intellectual indulgence. I returned to university as a student.OnFiction: Art and War
I almost started making a list of confounding variables, then stopped myself to ask a question – not whether art indeed fuels war, but why would Ruskin choose to believe so. War evokes death, and perhaps it is death that is the culprit without In evidence, Ruskin traces the preoccupation with war and military images in art from Egypt to Greece, to European knights, and onward. All pure and noble arts are founded on war. There is no art among an agricultural people if it remains at peace. There is no art among a shepherd people if it remains at peace. no great art ever yet rose on Earth, but among a nation of soldiers....
