Why on earth would a TSA agent pat down Senator Dianne Feinstein or former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger . Sheer common sense tells us that they are not about to harm airline passengers. TSA procedures test our commitment to three important elements of our political culture: liberty, democracy, and order. Letting Senator Feinstein through security without a pat down would offend our sense of democracy. Can you imagine the outcry if a TSA agent let Kissinger pass through security unchecked simply because of his stature. Other agents bark orders as if the passengers are nearly mindless subjects whose human dignity ended the moment they decided to buy an airline ticket. I have had encounters with TSA agents who are courteous, efficient, and who seem cognizant of the fact that the person they are speaking with is a citizen deserving of dignity.
