But no matter how much Green, Dean and Cabisca love the children they host, they are well-aware that the goal of hosting the children through Cayuga Centers' foster program is to eventually return the children to their biological families. Along with feeding, clothing and sheltering the children, these host mothers are hawkish about homework, tender with tears and — above all — consistent presences in the foster children's lives. So while the children heal from physical, psychological and sometimes sexual trauma, the host mothers give them a stable home until they are ready to reconcile and reunite with their blood relatives. As foster mothers, the women roll out welcome mats into their homes and hearts for children who, biologically, are not theirs. Just ask Mary Green, Lana Dean and Tina Cabisca. But biology alone does not make a family.

2012 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament: Virginia Cavaliers host Princeton Tigers

Well, it's a good thing I'm not a betting man, because so far I've missed three of the four NCAA Lacrosse Tournament picks so far, with the only winning pick being that I chose the overall No. 1 seed to advance. That is to say, every NCAA Tournament team that the Tigers have played has beaten the Tigers this season -- Hopkins, Carolina, Yale, and Syracuse. Princeton has only one win over any team in this year's NCAA tournament, and that came over Yale in five overtimes, 10-9. In any event, there's only one important game today, and that's Virginia hosting Princeton at 1:00 p. m. this afternoon in Charlottesville. Good job, Brian. The Hoos have actually never beaten Princeton in the postseason, losing twice in title games (1994 and 1996) and once in the semis (2000). The Tigers, though, would go on to lose to Yale in the Ivy League championships by a whopping 15-7.
