Health Care?

I am trying to think of a title for a multidisciplinary studies major that I have come up with concentrating in health care...I am staying away from the clinical aspect (aka biology, chemistry, etc) but am taking anatomy and basic clinical lab science,

Okay if you won't have any clinical skills or any managerial/administration skills, just what will you do? You'll have a lot of knowledge but nothing to do with it.

Healthcare System Overview

The different roles in the healthcare system

Supreme Court to hear dispute on health care law

The law known as the Affordable Care Act , intended to extend medical care nationwide, is the centerpiece of the Obama domestic agenda, and all major GOP presidential candidates oppose it. The legal challengers, including a group of 26 states, say... "This is going to be the most heavily covered Supreme Court case in history, even more so than Bush v. Gore , because that was so compressed," says Washington lawyer Thomas Goldstein , who argues regularly at the court, referring to the 2000... The case is on track to be heard by March, and a ruling would come by the end of June, just before the Republican and Democratic conventions for the 2012 presidential election. The leading question before the justices is whether in requiring most Americans to buy insurance, Congress exceeded its power to regulate interstate commerce.

Supreme Court to rule on Obama health-care law

"We know the Affordable Care Act is constitutional and are confident the Supreme Court will agree," he said. The law, aiming to provide more than 30 million uninsured Americans with medical coverage, has wide ramifications for company costs and for the health sector, affecting health insurers, drugmakers, device companies and hospitals. Republican presidential candidates oppose the law and Republicans in Congress want to repeal it. A Supreme Court spokeswoman said oral arguments would take place in March. White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said the administration was pleased the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case. Karen Harned of the National Federation of Independent Business said: "We are confident in the strength of our case and hopeful that we will ultimately prevail. Our nation's job-creators depend on a decision being reached before the harmful effects of this new law become irreversible.

Health Care Basics - NYTimes.com

If the market is left loosely regulated, as it is in California, insurance companies devote large resources to determining who really needs health care, so as not to provide it. this both leads to huge administrative costs and leaves anyone with a... Update : The pie chart only shows that part of health care paid for by insurance. If the state instead imposes community rating, as in New York – that is, if insurers are required to offer the same terms to anyone, regardless of medical history – you get caught in an “adverse selection death spiral”, in which healthy people... Start with the basic point: modern medicine requires that people have health insurance. But the health insurance market for individuals has never worked. The rest is out-of-pocket spending, which happens even in single-payer systems, public health spending, and a grab-bag of other stuff....
