A mutual friend arranged a meeting between Kluft and Bill Zhou, who became his agent in China and helped Kluft navigate the country's business culture and laws. The following year, the two companies signed a deal for Eternal Sleep to make and sell Kluft's mattresses in Indonesia and Singapore. But Earl Kluft found it can be done with the help of a guide through the unknowns of doing business in a foreign country. Kluft went to China in 2005 and confirmed that the Chinese market was indeed a good sales opportunity because of the big demand for U. S. -made luxury items. Fuel sales, however, amount to nearly a quarter of the Westside Shopper's business, and Yi breathed a huge sigh of relief when the store finally restarted the gas pumps earlier this month. Originally a tire center, the Westside Shopper has been a neighborhood convenience store at 1809 Washington Way for more than two decades, with most customers dropping by from the Old West Side neighborhood, Yi said. An overnight windstorm had wrenched loose a giant tree limb, which fell through the metal and canvas roof and destroyed the two gas pumps in front of his store, Westside Shopper in Longview. Fortunately, the downed limb didn't spill any gas, and the store's insurance covered repair costs, which Yi said were in the thousands of dollars. Yi's brother-in-law, Jae Kim of Longview, bought the store in 2007.
